Are you ready to level up your diet?

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be difficult, or boring. In fact, there are small things you can do to improve the nutritional status of your overall diet, whilst still including foods you love.

It’s time to BE EMPOWERED and learn exactly how you can take your nutrition to the next level!

#1 Make some ‘fake out’ meals

Love eating take out? Whilst takeaway foods are delicious, we know that they tend to be higher in calories due to a high dietary fat and carbohydrate content. If you’re wanting to improve your diet, then why not recreate your fav takeaway meal at home?

You can cook up just about anything at home. Burgers, crumbed chicken, loaded fries, pizza - the options are endless! In fact, you’ll find all these incredible options in the meal plan of our next EHP CHALLENGE!

#2 Add protein powder to your oatmeal

It's well known that oatmeal is a super healthy breakfast, however, oatmeal significantly lacks protein just on its own. Oats pack a nutritional punch with complex carbohydrates, fiber, and even micronutrients like magnesium, but one serve of oats (½ cup) only has 5g of protein.

Next time you have oatmeal, simply add a scoop of protein powder, such as OxyWhey! Not only will this give your oatmeal incredible flavor, but it will significantly increase your protein intake (+25g protein) for appetite stabilization, facilitation of lean muscle growth and so much more.

#3 Replace sugary soda with sparkling water

A lot of us love soda not just because of the taste, but simply because the fizziness is refreshing. Not only is soda calorie dense, but it is loaded with sugar which can contribute to negative health outcomes.

Instead, why not have some sparkling water? Mix in some lemon and mint for an extra refreshing effect. If you’re really craving some cola, try mixing Hardcore Cali Cola with sparking water - you get the cola flavour without the calories!

#4 Don’t go out of your way to eat ‘low-fat’ or ‘gluten-free’ foods

Food companies love using wellness buzz terms on their packaging, but ask yourself, do you actually need your food to be low fat or gluten-free?

If you have Celiac Disease, or a gluten-sensitivity, then of course - you will need to eat gluten-free foods. But if not, then there is NO specific reason that you should be deliberately picking gluten-free foods. In fact, most pre-packaged gluten-free foods are higher in sugar, as a way to improve the taste.

Some goes for low-fat foods. Fat naturally provides flavor to foods, therefore low-fat foods often have high amounts of sugar to try and compensate for the low dietary fat content.

#5 Be generous with herbs and spices

Most people associate healthy food with being bland and tasteless - but that doesn't have to be the case! The simplest remedy to boring food is the use of herbs and spices.

Herbs and spices are packed full of flavor AND nutrients, WITHOUT the calories. What more could you ask for?

Generously season your meats, vegetables, and just about everything else with herbs and spices that you like. Some suggestions are adding fresh parsley to your salad, adding dried oregano to a homemade pizza, marinating chicken in rosemary and thyme, or even making your own mexican seasoning with paprika, chili powder, garlic & onion powder, cayenne pepper and cumin.

#6 Add greens to your smoothies

Let’s face it - we ALL need to eat more greens. Green vegetables are some of the most nutritionally dense foods out there. Containing essential vitamins and minerals, and increased greens intake is associated with lower body weight, improves muscle function, stronger immunity and so much more.

Adding greens to your smoothies can be an easy way to sneak those veggies in. Try adding a handful of spinach to your smoothie, as spinach has a super mild flavor especially once blended with other ingredients. Zucchini is another green vegetable to add - trust us, you won’t taste it!

Alternatively, add a scoop of OxyGreens to your smoothie to get all the benefits of green veggie intake with a delicious flavor (Pineapple, Strawberry Margarita, and Forrest Berries).

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a few simple tweaks can take your diet to a whole new level- we hope we’ve empowered you to do just that!
